Star actress Omotola Jalade is a tax defaulter

Popular Nollywood actress, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, has put herself on the spotlight with her #DontPushMe campaign which she started in the heat of the fuel crisis that grounded the nation recently.

The actress unleashed her anger on Lagos state government and had tweeted that having paid her tax would Lagos state government make a refund of all she had spent on buying her security, fuel and road. She had described the state as insensitive and conceded the move to prosecute tax evaders as rubbish in her tweets.

What the beautiful mother of four had done to herself unknowingly was to expose herself to the searchlight of the Lagos Internal Revenue Service (LIRS). According to E24-7, Omotola does not pay taxes at all. This was revealed to the magazine by a source at LIRS who said the multiple brand ambassador has never filed her personal income tax return papers, an offence against the state so there is no money to be refunded to her. The source said:

“It is unfortunate she has become so vocal, criticizing the government but ignorant of her obligation as a citizen to pay tax.  She is not tax compliant. She failed to know that it is from the tax that she and others pay that government will provide all the amenities and infrastructures she mentioned. She needs a lot of education.”

The source added that though she has the right to criticize the government but not when she has failed in her role as a tax payer.   Her case, the source continued,  is like that of celebrity blogger, Linda Ikeji who after she was  served tax papers   recently out rightly  denied she is the owner of the much talked about Banana Island, Ikoyi, Lagos home.
